There is a debate raging over whether government funds should be used for the creation of the ark. "Governor Steve Beshear today joined the Ark Encounter LLC to announce the planned construction of a full-scale Noah’s Ark tourist attraction in northern Kentucky."(1) I myself am a supporter of Answers in Genesis which is in partnership with the Ark Encounter LLC.(1) I do want to see the Ark project bult with no government help what-so-ever.
There are several reasons why I don't like this idea of government helping private institutes.
1. It is welfare. Taking money from one group of people and giving it to another group of people. Which I call it Legalized Stealing (which I am somewhat taking part in it through government loaning me money to go to college).
2. It dilutes the market because it is basically subsidizing. This one incident with the Ark won't dilute the market that much but with all of the other subsidizing combined dilutes the market. Ronald Reagan was right when he said "Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it."(2) The Ark might technically not be a subsidy but in my Libertarian view it is basically a subsidy. I would much rather have the ark built in 2015 or 2016 instead of 2014 if that meant it would not have to get a subsidy from the state of Kentucky.
3. It offends people who are not supportive of the Ark and Answers in Genesis. I am offended if the government gives money to a museum that supports Evolution (which there are already are).
